Washington, Mar 22, 2005 -

Round Rock – U.S. Representative John R. Carter (TX-31) held a Federal Emergency Management Agency Fire Grant workshop last week at the Harker Heights Central Fire Station.

The workshop was attended by 15 Fire Chiefs and their grant writers from around the district.  The workshop was led by Carol McCoy, a Field Representative for FEMA. McCoy educated the workshop participants on the FEMA F.I.R.E. (Firefighter Investment and Response Enhancement) grant program.  The attendees learned how FEMA could help their departments and how to write a successful FEMA Grant.

“Every day, firefighters place themselves in personal danger to protect the lives and livelihood of the citizens they serve. Firefighting requires a personal sacrifice as well as unparalleled dedication to the job,” Carter said. “Being able to attain these grants will ensure that the men and women of our fire departments have the tools they need to protect the communities in the district.”

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is designed as an opportunity for the United States Congress to work with FEMA to enhance basic fire service delivery across the United States.
