About John
U.S. Representative John R. Carter was re-elected in a landslide in November 2016 to his eighth term representing Texas' 31st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Congressman Carter serves as the Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Appropriations and was selected to serve on the Commerce, Justice, Science Subcommittee and Defense Subcommittee. This is also Congressman Carter's fourth term to serve as Co-Chairman of the bipartisan House Army Caucus. He has been a member of the House Appropriations Committee since 2004. Carter Supports Tougher Actions Against Criminal Illegal Immigrants
06/29/17Today, Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX-31) supported two bills to further protect all Americans from criminal illegal aliens. Kate's Law, H.R. 3004, enhances penalties on previously deported illegal aliens who re-enter the United States. The No Sanctuary for Criminals Act, H.R. 3003, clarifies policies used by federal immigration enforcement officers to pick up criminal illegal immigrants from local jails.

Carter Supports Increased Defense Funding, Pay Raise for Troops
06/29/17Today, the House Appropriations Committee approved the fiscal year (FY) 2018 Defense Appropriations bill by voice vote, providing support for many programs important to Fort Hood and Central Texas. The legislation funds the Department of Defense including operations, readiness activities, and health and quality-of-life programs for our troops and military families. The legislation provides a total of $658.1 billion for Defense, an increase of $68.1 billion above FY17 levels, and $18.4 billion above the President's Defense budget request.
