Representative John Carter (TX-31) today applauded the U.S. Army's selection of Fort Hood as a site for the Janus Program, pairing the installation with General Atomics to develop and operate a nuclear microreactor.

"Fort Hood size and mission require constant, assured power to support mission infrastructure," said Carter. "I strongly advocated for Fort Hood's selection earlier this year because I know The Great Place has the mission, infrastructure, and people necessary to lead this important effort. I'm thrilled the Army agrees. The Janus program will strengthen readiness, reinforce defense innovation, and help ensure our soldiers can depend on secure power when it matters most."

In February 2026, Carter sent a letter to Army leadership advocating for Fort Hood's selection as a final Janus site. The Army's Janus Program has chosen five sites and five vendors to develop and operate nuclear microreactors, awarding $2.2 billion for development.
