Carter's Protection of Children Act Included in Historic Border Security Legislation

House to Vote Tomorrow

Representative John Carter’s (TX-31) Protection of Children Act will be voted on tomorrow as part of H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act. The Protection of Children Act, title V of the Secure the Border Act, ensures that vulnerable children are protected from human trafficking and exploitation by expediently returning unaccompanied alien children to family members in their home country if family cannot be located in the United States.
“Our nation is facing a record-breaking border crisis thanks to Democrats and the Biden administration. House Republicans are taking action to secure our border and combat illegal immigration by bringing the Secure the Border Act to the floor,” said Carter. “I am proud that the Protection of Children Act was included in this border package to expedite the safe return of unaccompanied children home. We know that human traffickers, cartels, and coyotes exploit children to line their pockets, only to abandon them at the border. These children are then subject to a slow-moving, bureaucratic system, all while being separated from their families. My Protection of Children Act gives these kids a voice and closes loopholes to return these children to their home country quickly and safely. With passage of this bill, we will prevent children from experiencing the trauma of detention, their potential release to strangers and a drawn-out adjudication process.”

The Secure the Border Act:

  • Forces the Biden Administration to restart construction of the border wall.
  • Deploys technology to the southern and northern border.
  • Increases the number of Border Patrol agents and provide bonus pay.
  • Requires transparency regarding illegal crossings from the Department of Homeland Security.
  • Strengthens current law to protect unaccompanied children from human trafficking.
  • Ends catch and release.
  • Ends abuse of executive immigration authority.
  • Strengthens and streamlines the asylum process.
