Carter to Democrats: Take Action on Border Security

Representative John Carter (TX-31) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 6.
Representative John Carter (TX-31) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 6. “An average of 4,500 people per day are being apprehended by Customs and Border Protection, and we are on track to apprehend over one million immigrants by the end of this year. Time and time again, Border Patrol Agents are describing the crisis along the southern border as ‘unprecedented,’ and it’s only getting worse. Unfortunately, House Democrats continue to ignore the growing problem at the U.S.-Mexico border, and instead offer legislation that would give amnesty to approximately 4 million illegal immigrants and does nothing to secure the border. We need to find a solution for DACA recipients, but Democrats’ H.R. 6 goes well beyond the 700,000 DACA recipients. It expands amnesty even to those that have been convicted of crimes that were violent or resulted in death or bodily injury. “It’s completely tone-deaf that the majority would bring up this legislation while Border Patrol is begging for resources to secure the border, and Americans recognize that the country is at a crisis level. It’s just another example of the Democratic party being completely out of touch with the American people.” Rep. Carter represents Texas District 31, which includes Fort Hood, the largest active duty armored military installation in the free world. He serves as co-chairman of the Congressional Army Caucus and Ranking Member of the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Appropriations. # # # |
