It also includes $450 million to support the Small Business Administration's disaster loan program to assist small businesses and homeowners as they begin to rebuild. Rep. Carter released the following statement regarding the passage of the legislation: “As both a Houston native and the Chairman responsible for allocating FEMA funding, I have worked tirelessly with my colleagues to ensure our fellow Texans receive the assistance, resources, and funding necessary to rebuild after Hurricane Harvey. Our legislation provides critical funding for FEMA’s Disaster Relief Fund, allowing our first responders to continue their life-saving recovery missions, assist with repair, and provide our communities in need with hope and peace of mind,” said Rep. Carter. “Mother Nature at her worst has shown Texans at their best, and we’ve heard countless stories of heroism and hospitality by Central Texans supporting our neighbors in need. Emergency services and volunteers crossed the state to perform lifesaving evacuations, provide food and shelter, and lend a helping hand. Hurricane Harvey has left devastation and heartbreak in its wake, but as Texans we have continued to show resiliency in the face of destruction. My thoughts and prayers remain with the individuals, families, communities impacted by this storm.” Rep. Carter represents Texas District 31, which includes Fort Hood, the largest active duty armored military installation in the free world. He serves as Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Appropriations, co-chairman of the Congressional Army Caucus, is on the Subcommittee for Commerce, Justice and Science and the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee. ### |
