Rep. Carter Directs Allocation of $1 Billion for FEMA Hurricane Harvey Relief

Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX-31), Chair of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, has directed the reprogramming of up to $1 billion to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), double the original reprogramming request of $500 million from the Department of Homeland Security. These funds will ensure FEMA has sufficient resources to continue their critical, lifesaving missions in response to Hurricane Harvey.

(ROUND ROCK, TX) – Rep.

“FEMA has worked tirelessly over the last several days, performing lifesaving missions in response to Hurricane Harvey,” said Rep. Carter. “While the directing of $1 billion in additional funding to FEMA is a vital first step in providing critical relief, there is still much work to be done to assist the communities in need. I will continue to work closely alongside my colleagues in the Texas Delegation and the Appropriations Committee to ensure Texans have the resources necessary to recover and rebuild from this devastating storm. My most heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with our neighbors in the southeast.”

Rep. Carter represents Texas District 31, which includes Fort Hood, the largest active duty armored military installation in the free world. He serves as Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Appropriations, co-chairman of the Congressional Army Caucus, is on the Subcommittee for Commerce, Justice and Science and the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee.
