Today, President Trump signed two executive orders to roll back aspects of the Dodd-Frank Act, and put a hold on the Obama Administrations Fiduciary Rule. Earlier today he also announced the United States has imposed new sanctions on Iran. Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX-31) released the following statements in regards to the President’s actions. “Today, President Trump took great strides in rolling back the Dodd-Frank Act’s burdensome and highly detrimental regulations targeting our nation’s economic leaders and job creators. Dodd-Frank is a disaster that has hurt many small businesses and local banks which in turn has increased costs on all Americans. I applaud the President’s actions, and look forward to working with my colleagues in pushing through legislation to bring Texas-style common sense to financial industry oversight.” “Additionally, the President has put on hold the Obama Administration’s fiduciary rule which was set to go into effect in April. If implemented, this rule would harm investors and every American seeking a financial plan for retirement. I’m grateful we have a President that is looking out for middle America, and not just putting up roadblocks to small business and our nation’s middle class. Thankfully, President Trump is keeping his word and reducing burdensome regulations that ultimately hurt the American consumer.” The President also announced sanctions imposed on Iran in retaliation to the regimes ballistic missile test conducted earlier this week. “For far too long, Iran has illegally tested ballistic missiles with absolutely no consequences from the Obama administration. It is long past due that the Iranian regime face consequences for these illegal activities and I applaud the Trump administration for swiftly taking action. While ISIS continues to gather headlines, Iran remains the most destabilizing force in the Middle East. For the continued safety of our allies in the region like Israel, this activity must stop and I look forward to working with President Trump to counter Iranian aggression.” Rep. Carter represents Texas District 31, which includes Fort Hood, the largest active duty armored military installation in the free world. He serves as Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Appropriations, co-chairman of the House Army Caucus, is on the Subcommittee for Commerce, Justice and Science and the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee. ### |
