Carter Supports Cutting Funds to "Sanctuary Cities"

Today, the House passed HR 3009, Enforce the Law for Sanctuary Cities Act, a bill co-sponsored by Rep. John Carter (R-TX-31).

“I am proud to strongly support cutting federal funds to so called “sanctuary cities.” This legislation will ensure those cities who desire help from the Federal government do their part in helping clean up their own streets, and deny grants to those who continue with “sanctuary city” status.”

“In the past two years, more than 75,000 criminal illegal aliens have been released, resulting in 123 American deaths. This is unacceptable! One of the most visible cases is that of Katie Steinle, who on July 1 was shot and killed by Francisco Sanchez, an illegal immigrant with a criminal record who had been released by the San Francisco police prior to the shooting, despite Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) having issued a detainer request to hold Sanchez. I am outraged that municipalities across this great nation jeopardize the safety of their citizens by providing sanctuary to criminal illegal aliens. That is why I fully support this legislation, and why in my Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill we included two amendments that will cut certain federal funding to these “sanctuary cities” and prevent the release of criminal aliens into our communities.”

“It is past time that we stand up to these lawless practices, and do everything in our power to reverse this trend in American cities. Additionally, we must continue to fight President Obama on his illegal amnesty programs, and fully support the men and women that work every day to protect our borders.”
