DHS first responder grants to enhance safety of the public

As Chairman of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, Rep. John Carter (R-TX31) is proud to announce more than $32 million in grants available to first responders. The FY 2013 DHS Appropriations Act secured $32,092,008 for the Fire Prevention and Safety Grant Program

“First responders are truly on the front lines protecting our homes and neighborhoods. Last year, the Texas town of West experienced a catastrophic explosion. Each and every day across this country men and women risk their lives responding fire-related emergencies. Their services are critical to our safety and we must ensure they have the necessary tools and equipment needed to do their job,” said Chairman Carter. ”I’m proud to say these grants will help enhance the abilities of our first responders and the safety of the public.”

With the goal of reducing injury and prevent death, more than $32 million dollars for the FP&S Program authorizes the Department of Homeland Securityto enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire and fire-related hazards.  

The application period for the grant program opens Tuesday, February 18 at a.m. EST and closes on March 21 at 5 p.m. EST.
