FreightWatch International Hosts Rep. John Carter

AUSTIN, Texas –Jan. 22, 2014 – Rep. John Carter (R-Texas), Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee for Homeland Security, visited the world headquarters of FreightWatch International, a world leader in logistics security services that provides organizations with complete cargo security and supply chain visibility from origin to destination. As part of Wednesday’s visit, Carter toured the company’s world-class shipment-monitoring center, met with employees and talked with executives about freight-related legislation. FreightWatch International is a subsidiary of Sensitech Inc., part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

Carter learned about FreightWatch’s monitoring and tracking services and the security and logistics technologies available to companies transporting goods through the global supply chain. In addition, the Congressman spent time in the company’s Command & Control Center, which provides around-the-clock cargo monitoring and emergency response services. He also spoke with FreightWatch’s intelligence analysts, who have developed a global supply chain security database to provide companies with actionable data to help select the safest routes and understand emerging cargo theft trends.

“Criminal activity in the supply chain is a growing concern,” Carter said. “FreightWatch International is a Central Texas company that assists businesses with securing the global supply chain, and provides technology to law enforcement for use in drug and human trafficking investigations.

“The Department of Homeland Security has an important role to play in securing U.S. trade routes,” Carter said. “The opportunity to conduct real-time, supply chain monitoring is a valuable service to manufacturers and shippers.”

Founded in 1998, FreightWatch initially provided cargo escort services to shippers of high-value, at-risk products, but has since expanded its service offerings to include customized programs for cargo security and visibility into global supply chains, leveraging “track and trace” technologies in places where traditional global positioning systems (GPS) often fail.
