Congressman John Carter (R-TX31) is releasing the following statement regarding the Senate's decision to move forward with confirmation of President Obama’s nominee for DHS deputy secretary: “I am disappointed in the Senate’s decision to move forward with the confirmation of President Obama’s nominee for DHS deputy secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, despite numerous objections and concerns. Mayorkas is under investigation by the department’s Inspector General over allegations that he mismanaged a visa program for foreign investors to benefit political allies,” said Congressman John Carter Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security. “The fact that the Senate changed their rules so that they could expedite the confirmation of a candidate who is under criminal investigation is appalling. I strongly urge Senator Harry Reid and President Obama to rethink the rush towards Mayorkas’ confirmation until these investigations are completed and properly adjudicated.” |
