Representative John Carter (TX-31) released the following statement after voting against H.R 987. “Both parties want to lower prescription drug prices. Both parties debated, developed legislation, and ushered it through the committee process. However, Speaker Pelosi chose to tie three bipartisan prescription drug pricing bills to contentious legislation to bailout failing Obamacare exchanges. Rather than delivering real reforms to lower prescription costs for the American people to the President’s desk, Democrats have prioritized playing politics. Ultimately, this bill will fail in the Senate, and it’s because Democrats are more focused on sticking it to Republicans and the President than governing. It’s a disappointing day. “Despite the Democrats’ decision, I remain committed to lowering prescription drugs costs. A lack of transparency in drug pricing benefits special interests and prevents patients from being able to make fully informed decisions about their care. The White House has already taken meaningful steps to increase price transparency in prescription advertising, which I wholeheartedly support. With or without Democratic action, Republicans will strive to lower the cost of lifesaving prescriptions.” Rep. Carter represents Texas District 31, which includes Fort Hood, the largest active duty armored military installation in the free world. He serves as co-chairman of the Congressional Army Caucus and Ranking Member of the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Appropriations. # # # |
