Carter Blasts Obama's Blatant Disregard for the 2nd Amendment

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX-31) responded to President Obama's executive action against law abiding gun suppliers, owners and purchasers exercising their Second Amendment rights.

Today, Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX-31) responded to President Obama’s executive action against law abiding gun suppliers, owners and purchasers exercising their Second Amendment rights.

“I have never seen a more power hungry President with such a determination to limit, infringe, and trample on the Constitutional Rights of my fellow citizens. President Obama is once again disregarding the will of the people, and the will of Congress through more overreaching executive actions aimed at restricting our Second Amendment rights. Time and time again President Obama has thumbed his nose at the Constitution, and today’s action is just the latest in his attempts to rule by executive as opposed to respecting our system of government that includes the legislative, and judicial branches as well. I will continue to fight for our Second Amendment rights in Congress, and will work with my colleagues to do everything in our power to put an end to the President’s outrageous abuse of power.”

“Placing onerous paperwork standards on gun manufacturers and Federally licensed firearm dealers is simply another step to make the exercise of one’s Second Amendment rights overly burdensome and does nothing to prevent gun violence or criminals from possessing firearms. Liberals have already tried to impose laws in violation of the Second Amendment, and they have failed. In fact, this year alone we have had a few wins in support of our 2nd Amendment rights. First, my amendment was included in the NDAA which empowers military installation commanders to allow Soldiers to carry a concealed weapon on base for their personal or force protection. Secondly, I successfully blocked the ATF from banning the M855 “green tip” ammunition used in the AR-15 rifle. Additionally, the ATF has dropped the requirement of CLEO certification from the National Firearms Act on transfer of ownership.”
