Rep. Carter Fights for Texas and Border States: Obama's Immigration Overreach Passes the Buck to Border States

Congressman John Carter, (R-TX31) Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Appropriations, has proposed language to be included in the Fiscal Year 2016 Labor, Health, and Human Services (FY16 Labor-HHS ) funding bill to help relieve the burden of healthcare and education costs on state and local communities as a result of illegal immigration.

“States along our Southern border have to bear the burden of Obama’s failed immigration policy by footing the bill for healthcare and education for illegal immigrants. I’m from Texas and see first-hand how the President’s overreaching action is creating an overwhelming financial and economic crisis for my neighbors,” said Rep. Carter.

“I have proposed language in the FY16 Labor-HHS Funding bill to direct the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Department of Education to provide states and local governments along the Southern border federal assistance due to the increased costs that have resulted directly from President Obama’s illegal policies including his November 20, 2014 executive immigration action. Texas should not have to struggle to handle the healthcare costs of millions of uninsured illegal immigrants as well as the educational cost of educating thousands of illegal children who require very expensive special services.”

“Texas has the highest number of illegal immigrants out of all the Southern Border States which means we have the highest bill to pay. It is unfair for our communities to have to stretch their already limited resources and budgets to pay for Obamas overreaching and illegal federal policies.”

Rep. Carter represents Texas District 31, which includes Fort Hood, the largest military installation in the free world. He serves as Chairman of the Homeland Subcommittee on Appropriations, is on the subcommittee for Commerce, Justice and Science and the Defense Subcommittee.
