Mr. President, the American People Have Spoken!

President's amnesty punches American voters in the nose
The American people spoke loud and clear on November 4, sending a message that they were tired of President Obama’s continued “executive actions” and his clear disrespect of the Constitution. Congressman Carter (R-TX31) and other Congressional leaders are demanding the President work with Congress on an immigration policy that will secure the border, create more jobs and provide better opportunities for our children. “Instead of listening to the American voters, the President has opted to punch them in the nose by promising to circumvent Congress, ignore the Constitution and use his ‘pen’ to take executive action on amnesty,” said Congressman Carter. “You said yourself Mr. President that elections have consequences. The American people have made their decision and you sir, are simply playing politics.” Congressman Carter signed on to a letter led by Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX6) insisting the President allows Congress to vote on a bill. The letter states: “In your post-election press conference on November 5, 2014, when asked about the prospect of executive action on immigration, you stated, “I’ll be reaching out to both Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, and other Republican as well as Democratic leaders to find out how it is that they want to proceed. And if they want to get a bill done -- whether it’s during the lame duck or next year -- I'm eager to see what they have to offer.” Despite this comment, recent press reports and statements emanating from the White House indicate that you plan to take action prior to the aforementioned consultation with Congress. A decision to affect immigration reform via executive action circumvents the legislative process.” Congressman Carter understands the need for immigration reform, through a process that puts border security first, disincentives illegal immigration and allows for eligible nationalities to migrate to the United States legally. “The current system is broken. We must find a solution, through Congress, that will secure the border and incentivize legal immigration. Amnesty, by way of the President ‘pen’ has not worked in the past and will not work in the future. It will have detrimental effects on our economy and nation as a whole. I strongly encourage the President to reconsider the request of the American people and allow the Congress to provide a solution for immigration reform and the President to then determine its merits.” #### |
