Congressman Carter visits the border to address illegal immigration crisis
Chairman Carter released the following statement in regards to his recent trip to the southern border to address the ongoing illegal immigration crisis: “The immigration crisis at our southern border is a direct result of the President’s abysmal immigration policies and his dereliction of the law. In this unlawful environment, criminals are running rampant and profiting off of smuggling children and families into the United States. This week I visited our southern border and spoke to these children and families directly. They confirmed that they are here because their family members told them they would not be deported. They did not come because of crime or oppression; they came to the United States because they thought they had ‘permisos’ from the President of the United States. In May alone, the cartels made $53,230,000 off of smuggling children. The President is asking for over $2 billion to complete this smuggling chain. How much money needs to be taken from the pockets of Americans and put into the cartel’s human trafficking ring? It has to stop. We must change the law to eliminate the cartel’s new revenue source that takes advantage of women and children and puts them in harm’s way. The solution is changing the law to detain, process, and deport illegal immigrants and secure the border.” Congressman John Carter is the Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security.
