The Department of Veterans Affairs will soon open clinics in Killeen and Copperas Cove. The "contract" clinics will not be staffed by VA workers, but rather a clinic contracted to work for the VA. Representative John Carter (TX-31) passed an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act to give military recycling centers the authority to accept quality recyclable goods from local communities and allow the profits from the sale of these materials to go to the Soldier Morale, Welfare & Recreation account. Today, the House of Representatives passed Representative John Carter (TX-31) and Representative Rick Larsen's (WA-02) legislation to change the tax law for Gold Star families receiving survivor benefits. The Children of Fallen Servicemembers AMT Relief Act updates the federal tax law to count Survivor Benefit Plan annuities paid to a minor beneficiary as earned income, so the payment would not fall under the Alternative Minimum Tax.
