Carter, Bipartisan Colleagues Demand SBA Fixes Shuttered Venue Operators Grants Program

Representative Carter (TX-31), along with U.S. Representatives Angie Craig (D-MN), Roger Williams (R-TX), Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA), Dean Phillips (D-MN) and over 200 bipartisan colleagues, sent a letter calling on the Small Business Administration (SBA) to stabilize the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) program. The SVOG program provides emergency assistance grants to venues that were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Carter's Language Prompts Army to Implement New Policy Regarding Juvenile-on-Juvenile Sexual Crimes

Today, Representative John Carter (R-TX-31) announced that the U.S. Army has adopted a new directive to address juvenile-on-juvenile sexual misconduct that occurs on installations in response to his legislation, the MINOR Act, and language Carter included in the National Defense Authorization Act. The Army’s new policy will establish installation multidisciplinary teams to address safety, medical, behavioral health, academic and social needs of juveniles involved in juvenile-on-juvenile sexual incidents. It will also require the Army to notify the appropriate law enforcement agency within 24 hours of report of incident.

Carter Introduces Resist Executive Amnesty on Defense Installations Act

Yesterday, Representative John Carter (R-TX-31) introduced H.R. 2871, the Resist Executive Amnesty on Defense Installations (READI) Act, in the House. If enacted, the READI Act will completely prohibit the housing of illegal immigrants on any military installation within the United States. In fiscal year 2017, Representative Carter included language in the National Defense Authorization Act that prevents the housing of illegal aliens on military installations unless the Department of Defense certifies to Congress that their presence will not impact the readiness of the service members stationed there.
