(Round Rock, TX)- Representative John Carter (TX-31) and Texas State University announced $1 million in funding for the Round Rock campus’ STEM-for-All Partnership
(Round Rock, TX)- Representative John Carter (TX-31) and Texas State University announced $1 million in funding for the Round Rock campus’ STEM-for-All Partnership. Congressman Carter secured these funds in the Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations bill, which passed through committee last week and is expected to reach the House floor by the end of July.
“Investing in education is investing in our future. This funding will help promote STEM engagement and educator professional development opportunities,” said Representative Carter. “Investments in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics help the nation continue to be a leader in innovation and keep our workforce competitive. I want to thank Texas State University for their vision and partnership in our community as they continue to grow the Round Rock campus. They’ve been a wonderful asset to our community and hope to continue to see the Round Rock campus grow.”
“This STEM-for-All Partnership aligns perfectly with some of Texas State University’s greatest strengths: building and educating diverse pipelines of future scientists and STEM leaders; community engagement along the Texas Innovation Corridor; and research with relevance that helps improve the educational and economic health of our region for years to come,” said Texas State University President Denise Trauth. “We are grateful to Congressman Carter for helping us obtain this opportunity to expand the impact of our Round Rock Campus. The Congressman has been a great supporter of Texas State and this is one more example of how hard he works for us.”
“A robust technologically literate society is a prerequisite for our country to meet its needs for future scientists and engineers,” said Gene Bourgeois, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Texas State. “We are proud to partner with the NASA STEM Engagement & Professional Development Collaborative, Round Rock Independent School District and the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce to help meet those needs through this community initiative.”
If signed into law, the STEM engagement and educator professional development opportunities made possible by this funding, will include summer engineering camps, STEM internship programs, monthly STEM nights, professional development sessions, and more. It has been shown that investing in STEM contributes to the community’s high tech sector workforce in the future.
