(Cedar Park, TX)- Representative John Carter (TX-31) and Mayor Corbin Van Arsdale announced $750,000 secured by Congressman Carter for stormwater mitigation projects in the Cedar Park Ranchettes Section 2 and 3 Subdivision. These funds were included in the Homeland Security Appropriations bill, which passed out of full committee last week and is expected to reach the House floor in the fall. These federal funds will be matched with $250,000 by the City of Cedar Park, to total $1 million for the project.
“If there’s one thing we know, it’s that Central Texas weather is unpredictable, and our neighborhoods should not have to worry about their homes flooding every time it rains,” said Representative Carter. “I am glad I was able to include this funding in the Homeland appropriations bill to improve the drainage facilities, hopefully giving the residents peace of mind. I also want to thank the City of Cedar Park for being a great partner throughout this process. I hope to see this legislation signed into law soon.”
Mayor Corbin Van Arsdale said, “The City of Cedar Park is excited and grateful for this significant flood-control funding. Storm water drainage is important to our residents. Our voters approved diverting some of our sales tax to flooding, and this $750,000 from the federal government really helps us leverage those sales tax dollars to lower the flooding risk for our residents.”
The City of Cedar Park was able to begin design on a project in the Cedar Park Ranchettes Subdivision Sections 2 and 3 Central area, utilizing the sales tax funds from the Storm Water Drainage Program. However, the City could not incorporate the entire project scope from the Storm Water Master Plan because of the need for increased downstream conveyance as well as funding constraints. This additional federal funding allows the City to incorporate more of the area of the Cedar Park Ranchettes Subdivision Sections 2 and 3 Central Project, which will improve the drainage conditions for the residents.
The Ranchettes Subdivision Sections 2 and 3 Project includes installation of storm water drainage infrastructure to capture and convey water downstream directly into Cluck Creek. The project also includes resurfacing the existing roadway with a ribbon curb on both sides. The Cedar Park Ranchettes Subdivision Sections 2 and 3 Central Project is currently under design and is anticipated to start construction at the end of this year. The timeline for the additional improvements that this new funding allows currently being determined.
