Carter, secured time in front of the Texas Sunset Commission for leaders from the Village of Salado, to address the Commission regarding the need for productive solutions for the negative impact on the Village during major Texas Department of Transportation projects over the past few years. Congressman Carter requested time of the Commission in order to allow leaders from Salado, to address the detrimental impact the construction and its many delays had on the overall economic well being of the area. Today, Rep. John R. Carter voted in support of the fiscal year 2017 (FY17) National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). This legislation will ensure our military has the tools necessary to succeed, increases military pay, increases troop strength and readiness, and prevents the closure of our base at Guantanamo Bay (GITMO), keeping enemy combatants off American soil. The NDAA also includes a provision based on Rep. Carter's Resist Executive Amnesty on Defense Installations (READI) Act legislation that prevents the housing of illegal immigrant minors on military installations. Read more »

Today, Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX-31) hosted a tour and briefings at the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) facility at Texas State University in San Marcos. Invitees included City and County officials, Police and Fire Department Chiefs, and EMS representatives from Bell and Williamson Counties. During the events, leaders witnessed a number of different drills and exercises used by first responders during an active shooter incident. They also participated in a Congressional Achievement Award Ceremony, where Rep. Carter recognized ALERRT and Texas State University for their commitment to this groundbreaking, life-saving training. Today, Rep. John R. Carter announced that the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery is being awarded a federal grant for expansion expenses. The $799,649 is being awarded to fund the construction of a memorial walk, 50 memorial wall markers, landscaping, scattering garden, and supporting infrastructure. Today, Rep. John R. Carter supported a bipartisan measure that will keep the government funded through December 9 of this year. The bill funds discretionary government operations at the rate they were funded in fiscal year 2016, minus an across-the-board reduction of 0.496 percent. In addition, the legislation includes the text of the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act and includes supplemental appropriations for Zika prevention and response.
