Congressman John Carter, Chairman of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, is releasing the following statement in regards to the appointment of John Sandweg as the new head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

"Today, Secretary Napolitano continued this Administration's blatant politicization of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) by appointing an acting head that is in no way qualified to lead our Nation's second largest federal law enforcement agency.  ICE is responsible for a lot more than just immigration enforcement and its work is absolutely critical to our homeland security as well as our efforts to disrupt and dismantle transnational crime.  I am deeply disappointed by this appointment and believe it is disrespectful to the thousands of dedicated professionals at ICE who are working tirelessly to enforce our laws and provide for our security.  I urge the Administration to re-think this appointment and promptly appoint a qualified, confirmable applicant for this essential post."
