The Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center (ALERRT) at Texas State University will continue leading the nation in training police officers and first responders. Congressman John Carter (R-TX31) congratulates the program in its continued training and development of courses to better train the nation’s first responders. The Violence Against Law Enforcement Officer Resilience and Survivability Initiative (VALOR), which is part of ALERRT, will receive $15 million in funding next year under the Byrne Justice Assistant Grants. In FY13, VALOR was appropriated $5 million. The ALERRT Center has developed and currently delivers seven grant-funded first responder courses across the nation, including scenario-based training. The Center also has three National Active Shooter Training Conferences that provide training to more than 900 police officers nationwide. “Our first responders are often our first line of defense, especially along the volatile southern border. They deserve the best training possible to not only protect our country but also themselves against real and serious threats. ALERRT is a life-saver and I’m proud of the service it continues to provide this nation’s protectors,” said Chairman Carter. |
