Carter Statement on Continuing Resolution

Representative John Carter (TX-31) released the following statement after voting against H.R.5305, the short-term continuing resolution appropriations bill.

“As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I was hopeful that negotiations would result in a clean continuing resolution that both sides of the aisle could agree on. However, Democrat leaders chose to include a poison pill they knew was a nonstarter for Republicans. Raising the debt ceiling without meaningful conversations on reforms is irresponsible. It is not a real solution, but a temporary fix for economically ignorant Democrats who want to tax and spend on their outlandish, far-left priorities.

“In addition, Democrats refused to even consider this bill while it included funding for Israel’s missile defense system, the Iron Dome. Instead, Speaker Pelosi caved to the demands of the most extreme members of her party and cut the funding altogether. This legislation is detrimental to future generations and leaves our greatest ally at risk when threats in the region are at their highest, and I cannot support it.”
