Rep John Carter released the following statement after he voted against H.R. 1.

“Despite being called ‘For the People,’ H.R.1 is anything but. In addition to being another attempt at a power grab for the Democrats, H.R.1 greatly expands the role of the federal government in elections.  It takes Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars and uses them to fund politician’s personal campaigns, meaning citizens have to pay for text messages, robocalls, and emails for candidates they don’t even agree with. Forcing Americans to pay for campaigns of candidates they don’t even agree with is a complete abuse of the hard work of American citizens. This bill is nothing but a partisan attempt at rigging the election system in favor of Democrats.”
