“We must demand quality care for our Central Texas veterans from the Temple Veterans Affairs (VA) facility,” was the message of Congressman John Carter’s (R-TX31) conversation with Acting VA Secretary Sloan Gibson. The discussion between Congressman Carter and Secretary Gibson took place shortly after Rep. Carter spoke with Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director, James Comey, and secured a FBI investigation into criminal allegations at the Temple, VA facility.

“I believe that the FBI needs to be investigating the Temple VA facility for criminal activities, and the Veterans Affairs Administration needs to be investigating the facility as well to administer cultural and bureaucratic reforms,” said Congressman Carter, former member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs.

“I have been pushing for bureaucratic reforms at the Temple VA facility since 2011, when constituents first brought the facility’s scheduling irregularities to my attention. I succeeded in securing an Inspector General (IG) investigation of the Temple VA in 2011; however the IG’s recommendations did not solve the underlying issues within the VA.”

“For the past six years, I have watched the Obama Administration renege on their promises to our veterans and create a culture in the VA that puts the bureaucrat before the vet. I have tried to solve this on a local and national level. As we have found out from the media reports on the Phoenix VA there is a much larger overlying issue.”

“We need an investigative body that can look into criminal allegations, which is why my Texas colleagues and I have called for a FBI investigation. Anyone participating in illegal activities needs to be terminated immediately and held accountable for their crimes, not be relocated to another VA facility where they can mistreat veterans at a different facility. We need to fire these corrupt bureaucrats and hire honest public servants who are dedicated to honoring our veterans and repaying them for the sacrifices they have made for our freedom.”

“We owe a tremendous debt to our veterans in central Texas and across the Country. Each service member has gone above and beyond the call of duty. It is time for the Administration and the Department of Veteran Affairs to do the same,” said Congressman Carter.
