For the last week, members of the Armed Forces have been without many of their chaplains due to a lapse in funding from the government shutdown. The Obama Administration and the Democrat-controlled Senate are finding every way possible to make sure this shutdown truly hurts the American people. But the House of Representatives is stepping up to make sure this doesn’t happen again. Congressman John Carter and his House colleagues today passed H.J. 58, legislation that will ensure our men and women in uniform and their families have the availability to meet and worship with their religious leaders.

“We cannot allow this Administration to continue targeting the heart of the American public during this shutdown,” said Congressman Carter. “This legislation will ensure military chaplains and those hired to perform such duties, including contract personnel, are able to continue performing their duties. I’m urging the Senate and this Administration to recognize the First Amendment right of each and every American.”
