Carter's Bill to Increase DHS Transparency Passes House

Last night, the House passed Congressman John Carter's (TX-31) Department of Homeland Security Chief Data Officer Authorization Act. This legislation will create a Chief Data Officer in each of DHS' twenty-two components to collect all statistics, analytics and policies to ensure a more timely response to requests from Congress and the public.

Congressman John Carter (TX-31) has introduced H.R. 6447, the Department of Homeland Security Chief Data Officer Authorization Act, to increase transparency between the agency, Congress and the public. This legislation creates a Chief Data Officer in each of DHS' twenty-two components to collate all statistics, analytics and policies to ensure a more timely response to requests from Congress and the public.

Carter Leads Fight for $11 Billion in Additional Hurricane Harvey Relief, Votes for Aid to Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands, California Wildfires

U.S. Congressman John Carter (TX-31) voted in favor of an additional $36.5 billion supplemental appropriation in disaster relief for Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and California. As Chairman of Homeland Security Appropriations, Rep. Carter, joined by many members of the Texas Congressional Delegation, pushed to ensure billions of dollars go to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, including $11 billion for flood insurance debt repayment. This legislation also includes critical funding for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands in support of Hurricane recovery, and designates funding to assist communities in Northern California in the wake of the region's devastating wildfires.

Carter Leads House Passage of Emergency Harvey Relief Funding

Today, Rep. John Carter (TX-31) voted in favor of emergency funding legislation to address response and recovery needs from Hurricane Harvey. The bill contains the full amount requested by the Administration – totaling $7.85 billion in emergency funding, including $7.4 billion for FEMA's Disaster Relief Fund. It also includes $450 million to support the Small Business Administration's disaster loan program to assist small businesses and homeowners as they begin to rebuild. Rep.
