Carter Files Veteran Transplant Coverage Act which Directs VA to Provide Transplant Operations to Veterans in a VA or Non-VA facility

Today, Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX-31) introduced the Veterans Transplant Coverage Act which requires the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide organ transplants to Veterans from a live donor regardless of whether or not that donor is a veteran. Current VA policy excludes non-Veteran organ donations from coverage under the VA Choice Program and forces Veterans to specific VA treatment facilities. For most Veterans these facilities are many states away. Rep. Carter's legislation directs the VA to provide the transplant operation for those veterans, in a VA facility or non-VA facility, regardless of the donor's status.

Carter Receives Department of Defense Distinguished Service Award

Today, Rep. John R. Carter received the Department of Defense Distinguished Service Award. He was presented with the award by Acting Secretary of the Army Robert Speer. The Army awards this decoration to those who provide distinguished service that makes a substantial contribution to the accomplishment of the Army's missions.

Carter Applauds President Trump's Actions to Roll Back Dodd-Frank, Block Fiduciary Rule, Sanction Iran

Today, President Trump signed two executive orders to roll back aspects of the Dodd-Frank Act, and put a hold on the Obama Administrations Fiduciary Rule. Earlier today he also announced the United States has imposed new sanctions on Iran. Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX-31) released the following statements in regards to the President's actions.

Carter Elected Chairman of Homeland Security Appropriations

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, the Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, Rodney Frelinghuysen, announced the 12 Appropriations Subcommittee Chairs for the 115th Congress. Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX-31) has been elected to the position of Chairman of the Subcommittee on Homeland Security, which appropriates all funding for the Department of Homeland Security and its agencies. Two other Texans were also named as subcommittee chairs: Kay Granger will chair Defense Appropriations Subcommittee and John Culberson will continue his chairmanship of the Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations Subcommittee.

Rep. Jeff Duncan, Rep. John Carter release the Duncan-Carter Hearing Protection Act

Today Rep. Jeff Duncan (SC-03) along with Rep. John Carter (TX-31) introduced a bill to cut through the red tape on owning firearm suppressors. The Duncan-Carter Hearing Protection Act will remove suppressors from the scope of the National Firearms Act (NFA), replacing the outdated federal transfer process with an instantaneous National Instant Criminal Background Check (NICS). The bill also includes a provision to refund the $200 transfer tax to applicants who purchase a suppressor after October 22, 2015, which was the original date of introduction. In stark contrast, many countries in Europe place no regulations on their purchase, possession, or use.

Carter, House Approve House Rules; Carter Opposes Goodlatte Amendment

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, the House of Representatives met for the first day of the 115th Congress. In doing so, all Members were sworn in and the rules of the House were adopted. These rules outline the procedures the House will follow for the next two years (the entire 115th Congress). Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX-31) voted to adopt these rules, that did not include a controversial measure that would have made changes to the Office of Congressional Ethics.
