Carter's Bill to Increase DHS Transparency Passes House
09/05/18(Washington, DC) - Last night, the House passed Congressman John Carter’s (TX-31) Department of Homeland Security Chief Data Officer Authorization Act. This legislation will create a Chief Data Officer in each of DHS’ twenty-two components to collect all statistics, analytics and policies to ensure a more timely response to requests from Congress and the public.
“The Department of Homeland Security’s work is of great importance and interest to the American people. This bill stemmed from listening to my constituents’ concerns regarding transparency between DHS and the public. The DHS Security Chief Data Officer Authorization Act will increase transparency and improve communication between the agency, the American people and Congress. This bipartisan legislation will help give the public an unbiased look into how their government is working for them, and ensure that DHS stays up to par with transparency expectations.”
H.R. 6447 passed unanimously in the House of Representatives, it will now advance to the Senate.
Rep. Carter represents Texas District 31, which includes Fort Hood, the largest active duty armored military installation in the free world. He serves as co-chairman of the Congressional Army Caucus and Chairman of the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Appropriations.
