Carter Awarded with Statewide Career and Technical Education Award

(Round Rock, TX) -  This week, Congressman John Carter (TX-31) was awarded the Career and Technical Association of Texas’ Champion of the Year Award for his commitment to CTE programs in Texas’ 31st Congressional District. He was nominated by Round Rock ISD. Staff from Round Rock ISD presented Congressman Carter with the award during a visit to Stony Point High School.

“I wholeheartedly believe in career and technical education programs, because they give students real opportunities to succeed regardless of whether they pursue a traditional four-year college degree,” Congressman Carter said. “As a father of four children, I know that every student is different and their paths are just as unique, so I’m pleased to see so many school districts in Texas’ 31st Congressional District embracing CTE programs that give kids choices. Career and technical education programs create opportunities for students to explore different career options and get a well-paying job without a college degree. I’m honored to have been nominated by Round Rock ISD for this award, because I believe these programs are crucial to Central Texas students’ success.”

“The Champion of the Year award is just that, a champion of Career & Technical Education programs and students, and Congressman Carter embodied that for Area 4 Career & Tech Association of Texas members,” said Sheri Bonds, Director of Career and Technical Education at Round Rock ISD. “Round Rock ISD was proud to nominate Congressman Carter for this award because of his support of CTE at the local, state, and national level by shining a spotlight on all the amazing opportunities our students are afforded in these programs.  Students have the opportunity to experience careers at an in-depth level while still in high school, with the intent to better inform their future plans.  Whether a student chooses to pursue their future through a certificate program, two year or four year program, we know that CTE makes a difference, as does Congressman Carter.”
