House Passes No Budget - No Pay Act

Members of Congress will be denied their paycheck if they continue to fail to pass a federal budget, under legislation passed today in the House with the backing of Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman John Carter (R-TX31). 

“The House has done its job every year, while the Senate has refused to pass a budget four years running,” says Carter.  “For this body to agree to any increase in the debt ceiling, this outrage has to end, and this bill does that.   If the House or Senate fails to pass a budget by April 15, the Members of the respective body will receive no pay until they comply.  It is past time for the Senate to start doing their job.”

The U.S. Senate under Democrat leadership has failed to pass a budget since April 29, 2009, in spite of two of the four years falling under a Democrat White House, House, and Senate.   The House is set to pass another balanced budget plan prior to the deadline that will balance the federal budget in 10 years.  H.R. 325, the No Budget, No Pay Act of 2013 extends the federal debt ceiling through May 19 and requires both the House and Senate to pass a budget by April 15 or forfeit their pay.
