Carter Stands Up for Sportsmen, Law Enforcement, Military with Amendment to Interior Appropriations Bill

Representative John Carter (TX-31) will offer an amendment to the FY20 Interior Appropriations bill during the full committee mark-up today. The amendment prohibits the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating the lead content of ammunition, ammunition components, or fishing tackle.

Representative John Carter (TX-31) will offer an amendment to the FY20 Interior Appropriations bill during the full committee mark-up today. The amendment prohibits the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating the lead content of ammunition, ammunition components, or fishing tackle.

“Since fiscal year 2015, Congress has upheld language to prevent the EPA from regulating lead ammunition and tackle. However, this year’s Interior bill does not continue this important prohibition. Without my amendment, future legal challenges could succeed and the EPA could ban traditional ammunition and lead fishing tackle, impacting anglers, hunters, law enforcement, and military,” said Rep. Carter. “My amendment is a common-sense approach to protect sportsmen and women, and protect the valuable environmental contributions they make.”

Rep. Carter represents Texas District 31, which includes Fort Hood, the largest active duty armored military installation in the free world. He serves as co-chairman of the Congressional Army Caucus and Ranking Member of the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Appropriations.
