Rep. John Carter released the following statement regarding the President’s recent overreaching action on the second amendment. Rep. Carter co-signed Rep. Tom Rooney’s bill (HR 1180) to prohibit the ATF or any other federal agency from issuing or enforcing any new restriction or prohibition on the manufacture, importation, or sale of ammunition in the United States.

“As a former Judge, I appreciate the responsibility our law enforcement officers have but I don’t appreciate the Administration attacking our second amendment rights and killing jobs across America. There are dozens of gun manufactures in this country, including one in my district. Thousands of jobs will be lost if the President continues targeting ammunition and our second amendment rights. As a member of the Commerce, Justice and Science Subcommittee, I will not stand for this. I am looking into this issue and expect full cooperation from the ATF and the Administration.”

Rep. Carter, who also serves as Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee of Homeland Security, also led the charge to clarify suspicion surrounding DHS’s ammunition purchase and stockpiling.
