Chairman Carter Assigned Defense and CJS Appropriation Subcommittees
Rep. John Carter (R-TX31) is proud to continue serving his constituents in District 31, now in two new leadership roles. Recently announced by House Appropriations Chairman Hal Roger, Rep. Carter has been appointed to the Subcommittee on Defense and the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science (CJS). Carter will continue serving in his leadership role as Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, which he has held since 2013. The appointment to the Defense Subcommittee will enable Chairman Carter to further fight for the men and women in uniform serving at Fort Hood as well as those serving around the world. “I am incredibly thankful my neighbors who continue to send me to Washington to vote on their behalf, including those in uniform. My new committee assignment to Defense will allow me to battle for our troops on a whole new level. We have to make military readiness a priority. I will remain committed to ensuring our soldiers and their families receive the proper care, training, equipment and support they need to protect this great nation,” said Chairman Carter. “ Chairman Carter was a district judge in Williamson County for more than 20 years before serving in Congress and is excited about the opportunity to work on the CJS Subcommittee, which oversees funding for the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. “As a Judge for more than 20 years, I was tasked with protecting the public and seeing that justice was served, working then with many of the agencies within CJS. My background as a Judge will allow me to not only represent my district but all Americans who are protected and served by the various departments within CJS,” said Chairman Carter. “I look forward to working with my colleagues in this new role and am optimistic about the upcoming FY2015 Appropriations process.” Chairman Rogers announced the Republican membership of the 12 Appropriations Subcommittees for the Second Session of the 113th Congress last week. Chairman Carter was previously Secretary of the House Republican Conference and has served on the Appropriations Committee and Homeland Security Subcommittee since 2005. His new appointments to the Subcommittee on Defense and the Subcommittee of Commerce, Justice and Science will replace Chairman Carter’s two Appropriations Subcommittee assignments to Military Construction and Energy and Science. |
