Carter Statement on 'Build Back Better' Act

(Washington, DC) – Congressman John Carter (TX-31) released the following statement after voting against H.R.5376, the ‘Build Back Better’ Act.

“Democrats should be ashamed of themselves. They rammed through a 2,000+ page bill full of socialist priorities. My Republican colleagues and I have been fighting this progressive, far-left socialist tax and spend package all year in order to secure a better future for our children, grandchildren, and country. It is absurd and infuriating to grant mass amnesty to illegal immigrants, empower the IRS to spy on American citizens, and allow taxpayer dollars to fund abortions. This bill also includes funding a Civilian Climate Corps, $400 billion in small business tax hikes, and would add over $350 billion to the deficit.

"I cannot in good faith vote for a bill that my constituents, and the American people, have actively spoken out against and that would harm our economy, education system, and national security for years to come. I will continue to fight alongside my Republican colleagues so that our children and grandchildren have a fighting chance to succeed in this great nation.”
