Carter Blasts Obama's EPA Plan: It Will Increase Energy Costs on Every American

Rep. John Carter (R-TX-31) released the following statement in response to President Obama's Clean Power Plan.

Rep. John Carter (R-TX-31) released the following statement in response to President Obama’s Clean Power Plan.

“President Obama and his Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are once again ignoring the law and the will of Congress by grasping for authorities well outside what the Clean Air Act provides. Congress, even a Democrat-controlled Congress, rejected ‘cap and trade’ and President Obama’s overreaching energy policies. This plan will have the most detrimental effect on manufacturing, making the United States even less competitive in the global market place. The majority of our economic recovery through the recession came in the form of energy sector jobs. Today’s action by the President will put that recovery in jeopardy, and squander any hopes of a resurgence in U.S. manufacturing.

“Under this plan, the President, and his EPA are not only waging war against American jobs, they are attacking America’s energy consumers, all for the sake of a political kick-back to his environmentalist supporters. His so-called Clean Power Plan is a slap in the face to an ‘all of the above’ energy strategy, and will immediately be challenged in the courts. If implemented, it will greatly increase energy costs for all Americans, and decrease our energy resources and reliability. What the President needs to do is focus on a true ‘all of the above’ energy strategy, including coal, nuclear, natural gas, wind and renewable resources. We must seek to provide the most cost effective, and reliable energy to every household across America, while balancing the economic and environmental impacts. The EPA is solely focused on implementing the most stringent environmental regulations on our energy future at the expense of the American consumer and manufacturing. I urge the Administration to hold off on implementing this disastrous plan until the courts have the opportunity to weigh in on the economic impact it will have on our States, our businesses, and the American people.”

Rep. Carter represents Texas District 31, which includes Fort Hood, the largest military installation in the free world. He serves as Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Appropriations, is on the Subcommittee for Commerce, Justice and Science and the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee.
