Defunding the Czars: Carter to offer CR amendment Video: Carter and colleagues go after the Czars on CSPAN All funding for the controversial “Czars” of the Obama Administration would be stripped from the federal budget under an amendment offered by House Republican Conference Secretary John Carter. Carter, who has led criticism on the House floor since 2008 of the unconstitutional appointment of cabinet-level officials by the Administration, says the House can now remove all the Czars through a ban on funding in the upcoming Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the federal government through the remainder of the fiscal year. “The sheer number of Czars appointed by this Administration makes the case that these positions are unconstitutional and should not be funded,” says Carter. “The law calls for high Administration officials to be vetted and approved by the U.S. Senate, yet the Administration has circumvented this process with these so-called Czars. With our federal deficit approaching catastrophic levels, cutting these positions provides millions in budget savings with no loss to anyone, while restoring the Rule of Law.” |
