The Round Rock Police Department will be able to enhance its communication efforts as a result of a $13,336 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Congressman John Carter (R-TX) announced today. The department is the recipient of an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, which is meant to help communities prevent and control crime. "Having spent the past more than 20 years as a judge in Round Rock, I know this grant will benefit the effort of the city’s police department and will help keep the community safe," Carter said. The grant specifically will go toward purchasing two mobile communication terminals, two record management systems, dispatch software, and two docking stations. Officer Edward Byrne joined the New York City police department in 1987. In the early morning hours of February 26, 1988, Officer Byrne was on detail protecting a witness when two gunmen approached him and opened fire, killing Byrne. |
