(Washington, DC)- Representative John Carter (TX-31) released the following statement after the House voted on unconstitutional gun control measures. “What the country needs now more than ever are measured, responsible, passable approaches that protect law-abiding citizens’ Constitutional rights, while keeping guns out of the hands of criminals. Over the last two weeks, we’ve continually heard “do something” from our Democrat colleagues, but instead of just doing something, we need to institute changes that will be effective, like increasing the safety of our kids at school and comprehensively addressing the root cause of the mental health crisis in America. “This politically motivated messaging bill was created without any Republican input, strips law-abiding citizens of their Second Amendment rights and fails to expand access to mental health services or fund additional law enforcement. We’ve seen gun control fail in liberal cities across the country and this legislation continues those failed policies. Instead, we need to focus on effective bipartisan solutions that can pass both chambers and be signed into law.” |
