Carter Secures Transportation Funds Washington, Mar 10, 2005 - U.S. Representative John Carter (TX-31) secured $8 million for transportation in Williamson County. The funding requested by Carter was included in the H.R. 3 - Transportation Equity Act, which passed the House this afternoon. “Transportation is an ongoing concern for the people of Central Texas.” Carter continued by saying, “This funding will hopefully ease some traffic woes and increase the safety on the roads.” Carter acquired $2 million to reconstruct US 79 from an undivided to a divided roadway with shoulders and turning lanes. The rapid population growth in Round Rock has created significant traffic congestion, which the funding would be used to relieve. The southern portion of Georgetown will also receive $4 million as a part of SH 29 bypass to Ranch Road 2243. Also included, was $ 2 million to expand SH 195 from the Bell County line to IH 35 from a two to four lane highway with improved shoulders and intersections. Improvements made would enhance safety and traffic flow. “The first step has been made, having the funding in the bill. Now, it is up to the Senate to take the next step. ”The transportation funding is not finalized until passed by the Senate and signed into law by the President. |
