Carter Statement on Passage of Minibus Appropriations Bill

Representative John Carter (TX-31) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 3055.

Representative John Carter (TX-31) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 3055.

“It is bad policy to bring these appropriations bills to the floor without a budget agreement. This package contains unrealistic topline numbers, spending $176 billion of taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars over the budget caps. Ignoring the budget process is putting us in danger of sequestration and devastating cuts to the military.

“While there are provisions within this minibus that I support, the bad outweighs the good. Unfortunately, Democrats have included multiple poison pills, including allowing detained enemy combatants from Guantanamo Bay to come to the United States, and implementing unrealistic aspects of the Green New Deal. Simply, there are too many partisan policies to support this legislation. I hope that we can come together to agree on a budget and resolve these concerns in the final package.”
