(Gray DC) Lt. General Paul Funk II has a busy month ahead. He'll be promoted to a 4-star General later in June.
The III Corps commanding general will also be moving east. He will become commanding general of U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Virginia.
Rep. Roger Williams (R-TX) said Funk is leaving a legacy of leadership in Central Texas and on the Army base.
"His father started it, and now he's finishing it," said Williams. "I've seen him in Iraq, how the soldiers respond to him. If he was a baseball manager, he'd be Casey Stengel, he'd be Vince Lombardi in football, Bob Knight in basketball."
Rep. John Carter said he remembers working closely with his dad, Ret. Lt. Gen. Paul "Butch" Funk. He first met his son on a visit to Iraq.
"General Funk is a soldier's soldier," said Carter.
"From the moment I met him, he struck me as a personable and a dynamic and a hard charger," he said.
Carter said he's confident Funk will improve the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command.
"The trained soldier is what our weapon is," he said.
Maj. Gen. Robert "Pat" White will be taking over as the III Corps commanding general at Fort Hood. There was a change of command ceremony on Wednesday.
