Carter Condemns the President for Vetoing the NDAA

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX-31) released the following statement in response to President Obama's veto of the National Defense Authorization Act.

Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX-31) released the following statement in response to President Obama’s veto of the National Defense Authorization Act.

“The President's veto of the NDAA ignores the will of a bipartisan majority and is a slap on the face to our men and women in uniform. I am disappointed that he is willing to deny our military the resources they need, especially at a time when threats to our national security are multiplying around the world.”

“President Obama’s petty political ploy is reckless and shows his lack of leadership once again. The whole world watched today as the President took action to embolden our enemies, weaken our military, and divide our nation. The President’s reason to veto the NDAA in order to expand welfare programs and departments such as the IRS and EPA is shortsighted and irresponsible.

“I urge my colleagues in the House and Senate to overturn this veto immediately. It is vital that we keep our Armed Forces operational and fully funded to respond to the threats facing our nation.”

Rep. Carter represents Texas District 31, which includes Fort Hood, the largest military installation in the free world. He serves as Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Appropriations, is on the Subcommittee for Commerce, Justice and Science and the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee.
