U.S. Representative John R. Carter (R-TX) was proud to vote for a balanced budget that will grow our economy, create jobs, protect our great nation and secure a bright future for our children and grandchildren. “The balanced budget passed by the House of Representatives cuts $5.5 trillion in spending without raising taxes and will ensure that American innovation continues to soar, our children and grandchildren will not be burdened with our debt and our budget will be balanced. Unlike the President’s proposed tax increase of more than $2 trillion, the House budget will make the tax code easier for my neighbors, including those running small businesses. This budget also ensures that our military has the funding it needs to protect our great nation. In a time of global uncertainty with terrorist organizations like ISIS wreaking havoc on the world, we must be prepared. Our military funding has been dramatically cut by sequester but this budget will provide funding where it is needed the most, ensuring our men and women in uniform have the support, equipment and training they need. Our budget repeals Obamacare. This will save over $2 trillion, end the Obamacare raid on Medicare, and rescind all of the tax increases on job creators and health care innovation. Our balanced budget gets our debt under control and keeps interest payments from drowning out key priorities. If left unchecked, interest owed on the national debt will exceed $5.6 trillion over the next 10 years. If we were to allocate that out equally across the population, it would be $325 more per month in taxes for every single American. The House budget will help create more jobs and will boost our economy. We all know to keep our house in order, we have to budget, balance our checkbooks and plan for the future. It is time the federal government does the same. As Texans, we know how to balance a budget and I’m proud to say the House budget mimics the great economic focus we have in Texas. As I always say, we need more Texas in Washington and less Washington in Texas.” The House budget passed 228 to 195. #### |
