Carter Calls on Congress to End Caps on National Security, Defense Funding

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX-31) joined 140 of his colleagues in signing a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan calling for legislation to end sequestration for national defense. Rep. Carter has long supported the end of this Obama-era policy, and believes without this repeal, our ability to defend our great nation will continue to diminish.

House Passes, Carter Supports Fiscal Year 2017 Defense Bill, Includes Pay Raise for Soldiers

Today, Rep. John R. Carter voted in support of the House fiscal year 2017 Defense Appropriations bill which passed with bipartisan support. The bill, which funds our military through September 2017, closely reflects the Defense Appropriations bill the House passed last summer, and is consistent with the final National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2017. The legislation funds critical national security needs, including military operations and readiness programs, as well as health and quality-of-life programs for our troops and military families.

Carter Receives Department of Defense Distinguished Service Award

Today, Rep. John R. Carter received the Department of Defense Distinguished Service Award. He was presented with the award by Acting Secretary of the Army Robert Speer. The Army awards this decoration to those who provide distinguished service that makes a substantial contribution to the accomplishment of the Army's missions.

Carter Votes in Support of our Military, Increase to Troop Strength, Readiness, Pay

Today, Rep. John R. Carter voted in support of the fiscal year 2017 (FY17) National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). This legislation will ensure our military has the tools necessary to succeed, increases military pay, increases troop strength and readiness, and prevents the closure of our base at Guantanamo Bay (GITMO), keeping enemy combatants off American soil. The NDAA also includes a provision based on Rep. Carter's Resist Executive Amnesty on Defense Installations (READI) Act legislation that prevents the housing of illegal immigrant minors on military installations.
