Carter Applauds President Trump's Actions to Roll Back Dodd-Frank, Block Fiduciary Rule, Sanction Iran

Today, President Trump signed two executive orders to roll back aspects of the Dodd-Frank Act, and put a hold on the Obama Administrations Fiduciary Rule. Earlier today he also announced the United States has imposed new sanctions on Iran. Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX-31) released the following statements in regards to the President's actions.

Carter Elected Chairman of Homeland Security Appropriations

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, the Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, Rodney Frelinghuysen, announced the 12 Appropriations Subcommittee Chairs for the 115th Congress. Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX-31) has been elected to the position of Chairman of the Subcommittee on Homeland Security, which appropriates all funding for the Department of Homeland Security and its agencies. Two other Texans were also named as subcommittee chairs: Kay Granger will chair Defense Appropriations Subcommittee and John Culberson will continue his chairmanship of the Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations Subcommittee.

Cornyn, Vela, McCaul, Carter Press Border Patrol to Honor Slain Agent and Help Ensure Benefits for Family

WASHINGTON –Today U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), U.S. Representative Filemon Vela (TX-34), U.S. Representative Michael McCaul (TX-10) and U.S. Representative John Carter (TX-31) sent a letter to U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner R. Gil Kerlikowske urging him to classify the 2014 death of Border Patrol Agent Javier Vega Jr. as a line of duty fatality and help to make sure that his family receives the corresponding benefits afforded public safety officers who are killed in the line of duty.

Carter, Texas Republicans Send Letter to President Obama Regarding Syrian Refugees

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX-31), along with his Texas Republican colleagues, joined Governor Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick in sending a letter to President Obama regarding the Syrian Refugee crisis. The letter calls into question the handling of the Syrian refugee crisis by the administration given the stated intention by ISIS to infiltrate and exploit the program to carry out attacks on the west.

Carter Statement on SCOTUS Immigration Ruling

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX-31) responded to the Supreme Court's ruling today to uphold a lower court's decision and block President Obama's illegal amnesty. The lower court had sided with Texas, and put a hold on the President's executive overreach to defer deportation and provide work authorization to millions of illegal immigrants.
