President's Call for 1967 Israeli Border Undermines Mideast Peace

President’s Call for 1967 Israeli Border Undermines Mideast Peace

(ROUND ROCK, TEXAS) --   Middle East peace prospects suffered a setback today as a result of the President’s remarks calling for an Israeli retreat to its 1967 borders, according to U.S. Rep. John Carter (R-TX).

“Today the President by default encouraged Hamas to continue their attacks against Israeli civilians, by conceding to the Hamas position with no requirement  to unconditionally recognize Israel’s right to exist,” says Carter.  “This unilateral concession by Israel’s number one ally seriously undermines their ability to negotiate for a legitimate two-state solution that guarantees peace in the region.”

Carter says the President’s speech continued the Administration’s three-year pattern of weakening American support for the only functioning democracy in the Middle East.

The Secretary of the House Republican Conference also noted the President continued another three-year pattern of pledging more U.S. deficit spending as part of the solution to every problem, foreign or domestic.

“The President today not only sold out an ally, he proposed doing so with borrowed money that we can’t afford to lend,” says Carter.  “To suggest forgiving Egypt $1 billion in U.S. taxpayer loans while offering another $1 billion that we have to borrow first is fiscal and foreign policy ineptitude of historic proportions.”
