Washington, May 7 - Fort Hood is now targeted to receive $64 million in new federal funds for its Warrior Transition Program, after the funds were included in Appropriations Committee action today on war supplemental funding, according to U.S. Rep. John Carter (R-Round Rock).
“We are fortunate to have landed full Appropriations Committee approval for this very important program,” says Carter. “My fellow Texan Chet Edwards (D-Waco) was instrumental in our being able to put together a bipartisan front on this program, which was essential for success.”
Edwards represented the Fort Hood area until redistricting in 2004, while Carter began representing the area thereafter. The two legislators frequently team up on issues critical to the Army’s largest base.
The Warrior Transition program provides support, care, and healing of wounded, ill and injured Soldiers, along with their families and caregivers.
